The Acquisition of More Things

Yes, I am guilty of buying more stuff. I've been thinking about working towards less stuff, but today was not the day. The Motherina & I hit our favorite scrapbooking store, and then headed down the road for some quick antiquing. There I found the lovelies pictured here.

Naturally, I had to have the needle card since:

a) it has dark-haired girls on it.
b) it is old.
c) it was made not in Taiwan or China or Myanmar, but JAPAN, which would make it actually
rather old, instead of just old-looking.

And the lace was pretty as well. Please don't ask what I'm going to do with it - I don't have a clue. ;)

At another (evil & chain) store, I also picked up some vintage-looking cowkid fabric that I've been eyeing for a while, since it was FINALLY on sale. I see some cute kiddie decorations in my near future, for some of the many kiddies that my friends keep having. I love being a pseudo-aunt! Make 'em cute stuff, take their cute little pictures, play with 'em, and send 'em home just as they get cranky. It's a great life, I tell you!

Blankets and sheets are on the line, ready to be packed up till next winter. Now if I could just get the rest of the house in order & ready to be packed!

The Baglet

Hopefully Feather isn't reading, since her peaceful little bag is actually on its way into existence. Granted, it's not much more than a pocket yet. But it exists! And, naturally, will eventually have a strap and a lining with cool pockets.

Lindsey & I are both on the downward slope of the school year, so things are hellatious. That means that we eat out WAY too often, and are grumpy more than usual. On the upside, the end is now, finally, in sight. Talk to us in June, and we will be the very definition of serenity.

Now, if only my Tulane friends would get their respective acts together and decide where we are to reune this summer, there would be no forseeable stress in my summer. ;)

So, here's to peaceful purses and downhill slopes!

The Arrival.

So, since Marchish I have managed to unearth a LOT of precious little projects involving pom-poms. Not the cheerleadery kind, either. And these were not your run-of-the-mill Michael's types. They were adorably homemade. So, after some sleuthing, I found out that there exists a tool, a pom-pom maker, which one can procure from Superbuzzy! Naturally, I bought a set - medium & teensy.

In a serendipitous moment last weekend, I showed Melissa & Julie my new favorite online store (Superbuzzy), and mentioned the pom-pom maker. Melissa shrieked, disbelieving, because they had just seen the tool demonstrated on Creative Juice. AND THEY HAD TIVOED IT!!! Which meant that I got to watch it, because, as we know, there is no TV at my house. After the show, I was even more excited.

So, the little darling arrived today, and I have already made a pom-pom. And, in a nod to woofnanny, I've uploaded a picture. :)

Sunday. About to be Raining.

Spent a lovely evening yesterday with Julie & Melissa making stuff. I'd love to post the results, but since we only have dial-up, that is probably not to be. For dessert, we had my last-minute "what can I scrounge in our kitchen" bread pudding, largely inspired by a Pampered Chef (of course) recipe, but tweaked by yours truly to be just a bit more authentic.

Today's weather is the kind of weather I associate with March. It's mid-April. On the upside, all this nasty windy wetness has made outside smell fantastic, which means that I have forced my sweet husband to let me leave the windows open, even if it does reduce the tempereature inside to about 62 degrees. I can't stand the smell of a stuffy house.

Today's projects include:
~working on a little purse as a welcome back to America gift for the Feather
(I do not have any illusions about the fact that it will probably take me UNTIL she comes back to Louisiana at the end of May to get this sucker finished. )
~playing around with little felt boxes inspired by this one
~Pasta Carbonara for supper. mmmmm

Lazy weekend all around - my very favorite kind.

class anxiety

Today, the smallest of the children and I were doing an experiment that explains why the water at the bottom of the pool (lake, whatever) is colder than the water on the top. We put red warm water in a baby food jar, and blue ice cold water in another. Put a card on top of the red jar, flip it over, set it on the blue jar, and slide the card out. AND THE WATER DOES NOT MIX. Fantastic science, they got it, and of course, some water spilled. I grabbed a handful of paper towels to wipe it up, and had a mini-breakdown inside my head, because I could just as easily have used a rag.

So, I am now guilt-ridden because I wasted the paper towels, and added to the landfill unnecessarily. The fact that I am worried about this shows that, clearly, I don't have any real problems in my life.

Haven't made a thing this week. Need to get on that.

why now?

This is a very good question. Why, today, Easter Sunday 2007? Because I've been prodded to by some folks, and today seemed as good a day as any. Today's experiment: doing all of the laundry at one time. And, I am happy to report, it is done. Not a huge accomplishment, but one that counts nonetheless.

No crafty or foodie goodness for me today, but the rest of this week of has been rather productive on those fronts. The only thing being produced around here tonight are some lesson plans.
